Full semester workload = 60 credits = 60 AUT points

Classes at Strathclyde will usually be 20 credits, so students will typically take 3 classes for the semester while on exchange.

Course levels

Typically, undergraduate students will spend three years studying a single subject that forms their course (major)

  • Level 1: first year of undergraduate programmes
  • Level 2: second year of undergraduate programmes
  • Level 3: third year of undergraduate programmes
  • Level 4: final thesis year of undergraduate programmes – rarely open to exchange students

Specific subject requirements/restrictions

Students may choose classes from a maximum of two departments: one primary department and one secondary department.

There must be a minimum of 60% classes (40 credits) in the primary department, and up to 20 credits can be selected from a secondary department.

Limitations:

  • Chemistry students are only able to go to Strathclyde on exchange for a full academic year due to the class setup.
  • Computer and information sciences have limited single semester offering, as many classes run over both semesters.

Limited options are available for the following AUT majors, and students will need to carefully check they can make up the necessary credits: creative writing, journalism, computer science, data science, hospitality management, mechanical engineering, software development, software engineering.
