Submitting your research ethics application
Students: Please prepare your research ethics application in consultation with your supervisor, referring to the submission checklist below. Your supervisor will submit your completed application on your behalf.
Staff and supervisors: Please submit completed research ethics applications by email, following the submission instructions provided in the application document.
After submitting, you’ll receive confirmation that the application has been received.
If an application poses only minimal risk of harm to participants, it may be reviewed by sub-committee between full meetings.
If an application needs to be reviewed by the full AUT Ethics Committee, it will go to the next available meeting after the submission is received. Please refer to the agenda closing dates below. These are the cut-off dates for submissions for each meeting.

Use this checklist prior to submitting your research ethics application.
- Students, have you prepared your application in consultation with your supervisor?
- Have you completed all questions in the application document?
- Have you used plain language in your application?
- Use language that a lay person (non-expert) can understand
- Technical terms should only be used where needed. Explain any technical terms the first time they are used
- Are your participant documents written in appropriate plain language?
- This includes your Recruitment Poster, Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form
- Use language that is tailored to your participants
- Use age-appropriate language for children or young people
- Have you included all necessary supporting documents?

- Permission for researchers to access organisation (if required)
- If you are using data from other organisations, do you have a data sharing agreement? Please also provide a data dictionary to show the data you are using and its sources.
- Has your application, including all supporting documents, been proofread?
- By you?
- By a trusted person or peer?
- By your supervisor?
- Have you obtained the required Head of School or Faculty Dean signatures?
- Have you created a single pdf with your application?
- Include your application document first
- Include all your supporting documents in the order they are mentioned in your application
