Perioperative Practice Simulation Suite
The Perioperative Practice Simulation Suite offers a fully immersive, authentic environment for developing the skills needed to work in perioperative care. Designed to replicate the full surgical journey, the suite combines industry-standard equipment with realistic mannequins for simulations and surgical-grade instruments.
Who can use the simulation suite?
The Perioperative Practice Simulation Suite is open to both health science students and external clients, where appropriate.
Hands-on simulations
The simulation suite allows students to practise every stage of perioperative care, from preoperative assessment and anaesthetic induction right through to postoperative recovery and discharge. These simulations help you apply your classroom learning in real-time situations, building the skills and technical expertise you'll need for your career.
The simulation suite includes:
- Two operating theatres with medical gas banks, anaesthetic machines, surgical tables and a range of surgical and anaesthetic instruments used in real-world practice.
- A scrub bay for learning aseptic technique and surgical hand preparation.
- A two-bed recovery unit replicating a post-anaesthetic care unit environment.
- A procedure room for hands-on skills training such as airway management and intravenous access.
- A simulation management room for real-time scenario coordination and control of the learning environment.
AV and streaming technology
The simulation suite is equipped with HD cameras and microphone systems. These allow us to live stream simulations to classrooms, remote learners or external participants and record everything for later review. The recordings can also be used to create learning resources for students.
