Senior Lecturer, Marketing & International Business, AUT Business School

When Dr Amy Errmann joined AUT in 2022 to teach and research across AI, digital technologies and consumer behaviour, she came for the open, engaged and impact-focused culture. Four years on, she'll tell you the culture is real.

AUT gives me the freedom to be open, candid, and creative in my research and teaching while still being part of something larger.

What’s your role and how long have you been at AUT?

I’m a senior lecturer on the career pathway, which means my role brings together research, teaching and wider engagement. I joined AUT in mid-2022.

What made you choose AUT – and what made you stay?

I chose AUT because of its open, engaged and impact-focused culture, and I’ve stayed because that culture is real. AUT values scholarly excellence, practical impact and authentic connection with students, colleagues, industry and communities.

What has surprised you most about working here?

What has surprised me most is the openness to feedback, change and genuine debate. AUT feels like more than a workplace; it is a community, and for me, it has become a kind of whānau.

When did you last think: this is why I do this job?

Honestly, I think this almost every day. I feel incredibly lucky to research questions that matter and to teach students about fast-changing areas such as AI, digital technologies, consumer behaviour and critical perspectives on marketing.

What does working here let you do that you couldn’t do anywhere else?

AUT gives me the freedom to be open, candid, and creative in my research and teaching while still being part of something larger. It allows me to build meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, industry, and community partners in ways that feel both personal and purposeful.
