Master of Visual Arts

The Master of Visual Arts is a one and a half year (full time) interdisciplinary research degree for visual arts graduates and creative professionals. You select a pathway that reflects your art practice and/or vocational interests.

As well as collaborating with other visual artists, you could also work with musicians, composers, filmmakers, animators, choreographers, directors, actors, set designers and writers across AUT.

  • You will undertake a research project that demonstrates mastery of a visual arts field
  • The research project is either practice-based or practice-led (theoretical)
  • Your research will contribute to diverse and emerging dialogues around creative practice

Entry Requirements

You must have completed the Bachelor of Visual Arts or equivalent with a B grade average or higher in the papers at level 7 or above.

You can specialise in multimedia, installation, digital or moving image or new media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, sound, film, performance, social art practice, and other culturally relevant media.
