Bachelor of Health Science - Podiatry

Podiatry focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of lower limb and foot disorders. This degree will prepare you for a career as a podiatrist in both the private and public sectors. You can apply to register as a podiatrist in New Zealand and overseas if you graduate successfully.

You’ll experience all aspects of a podiatrist’s caseload during your studies – in clinical placements that include hospitals, private practices, and AUT’s on-campus podiatry clinic. You’ll also practise and perform minor surgical procedures in our purpose-built surgical theatre.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

  • Must be capable of meeting Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) requirements and Vulnerable Children’s Act (VCA Act)
  • Police clearance
  • Applicants with two or more years of secondary and/or tertiary education outside New Zealand must meet IELTS requirements and may be interviewed.

Selection criteria

  • Preference will be given to applicants with the highest level of academic achievement and/or evidence of accomplishments in the relevant field.
  • Interview may be required

  • Sports podiatry: working with athletes to prevent, manage and rehabilitate sports injuries
