Emerging Research Leader in Pacific Health: Dr Radilaite Cammock
Dr Radilaite Cammock is a senior lecturer in the School of Public Health and Interdisciplinary Studies. Her research focuses on the realities and challenges that Fijians living in Aotearoa face in the health system.
After completing her PhD in public health at the University of Otago, Radilaite joined AUT in the 2017 cohort of the forerunner of the Eke Tangaroa programme.
In 2020, she was awarded an HRC Emerging Researcher First Grant for research on sexual and reproductive health education among Pacific youth, which she has recently completed.
Today, Radilaite is integral to leading the growing Pacific Health programme at AUT and holds a faculty leadership role as Deputy Associate Dean Pacific Advancement.
Beyond academia, Radilaite’s family is her inspiration and key support system. Her parents moved the family from Fiji to New Zealand for educational opportunities. Radilaite says she was raised to value education, be curious, and not be afraid to work hard.

In May 2024, the Health Research Council of New Zealand announced nine Fellowships for talented Māori and Pacific health researchers who are emerging leaders in their field, and Radilaite is one of those nine. She intends to use this fellowship to increase understanding of the importance of ethnic specificity in the Pacific approaches to health.
