The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a one-year, research-only master’s degree. It provides an opportunity for you to undertake a research topic of an applied or professional nature under the supervision of culture and society staff. Alternatively, the MPhil can provide a pathway to more advanced research at doctoral level.
Minimum entry requirements
A four-year bachelor’s degree at level 8 OR one of the following or equivalent:

May be required to complete an approved research methods paper.
You complete an original thesis during this year of your study. Staff in culture and society are available to supervise Master of Philosophy research on a wide range of topics.
It is expected that as a graduate with a Master of Philosophy you will have gained the necessary skills and qualifications to follow an academic or research career leading to a PhD. Alternatively, your research topic may lead you to a position of expertise in your chosen field.
