Master of Applied Finance

The Master of Applied Finance gives you the skills to succeed in a wide range of financial fields. It’s designed for professionals with an unrelated degree who want to gain the specialised skills for a career in the finance industry.

You’ll develop an understanding of current issues in international investment. You’ll also gain skills to give advice on corporate financing and restructuring, make sound investment decisions and provide advice to clients, and effectively participate in the management of an organisation.

Minimum entry requirements

  • Must have completed a bachelor’s degree or graduate diploma (in any discipline) with a B- grade average in papers at level 7 or equivalent, OR
  • 10 years of relevant work experience combined with a work-based portfolio

Admission is subject to the approval of the Dean (or representative).

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with a minimum score of 6.0 in each band.

Structure and Content

The Master of Applied Finance is taught over three 12-week trimesters. Each trimester includes 12 weeks of teaching with exams scheduled in week 13. All papers are 15 points except for the Research Project in Applied Finance which is 45 points. Textbooks are included in your course fees. There are three key elements:

  1. Core professional knowledge and skills in finance (75 points)
  2. Associated business knowledge and skills (60 points)
  3. Research project in applied finance (45 points).
