Diploma in English Language

Take your academic English studies to a higher level with the Diploma in English Language and prepare yourself for further study.

You develop the language and study skills for study at bachelor's level. Some papers in the Diploma in English Language can be cross-credited to AUT's Bachelor of Arts in English and New Media Studies.

Minimum entry requirements

  • NCEA: 48 credits at level 2 or higher including eight credits at level 1 in any one subject from Classical Studies, Drama, English, Geography, Health Education, History, History of Art, Media Studies, Social Studies or Business Studies, Economics, Physical Education, Te Reo Māori, Te Reo Rangatira or ESOL level 3 credits in reading and writing.

  • Placement test and interview may be required

English language requirements

  • IELTS (Academic) 5.5 overall with all bands 5.0 or higher; or equivalent
