This exciting course explains the role of professionalism for paramedics registered under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003. It is delivered by an expert health law and ethics team to prepare paramedics who will be registered under the Act.
This short course is aimed at those who provide prehospital emergency service, members of wider paramedic services, defence force medics and employers. It offers an introduction to those who have not undertaken health law studies and a refresher for those who have. Vital information will be delivered regarding the impact of the Act for paramedic practitioners.
The content is customised for paramedics and ambulance services, with case studies to embed the relevant knowledge about the Act. Every consumer has the right to have paramedic services provided that comply with legal, professional, and ethical standards. The course increases knowledge about these standards through dynamic case reviews and small group discussion.
The course will be 2 hours and offered at multiple locations. The agenda, PowerPoint slides and references will be distributed. There are no assessments or tests, but attendance is required. Certificates of attendance are evidence of continuing education for paramedics’ professional portfolios.
