Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership

Prepare yourself for leadership roles in the education sector with the one-semester Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership.

The postgraduate certificate sits within and progresses to the Master of Educational Leadership. It has a focus on the leadership of learning and one other related area of educational leadership.

This postgraduate certificate is particularly suited to current and aspiring leaders who want to develop the skills to be an outstanding leader in an educational environment. This is not an initial teacher education programme and will not lead to registration with the Education Council of New Zealand.

Minimum entry requirements

Completed one of the following:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree
  • Relevant graduate diploma
  • Relevant professional qualification or professional experience approved by the Dean (or representative) to be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree

  • All applicants must have at least three years of relevant professional experience

Applicants are required to submit a current CV providing evidence of their professional experience, including:

  • Dates
  • Organisations' names
  • A paragraph describing specific responsibilities at each school/organisation
  • Student year groups (if appropriate)
  • Level of employment

English language requirements

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with 7.0 in Writing and all other bands 6.0 or higher; or equivalent

You complete 60 points from papers in the Master of Educational Leadership. There's a mix of classes and online support and activities. Each paper has 3 full-day classes, plus 1 or 2 evening classes.

Papers you can complete

Graduates will have enhanced leadership capabilities, thereby having a greater opportunity to undertake or continue leadership roles in educational organisations in:

  • Early childhood sector
  • Compulsory sector
  • Tertiary sector
  • Government or corporate settings

This qualification does not provide eligibility for provisional teacher registration.

You can also progress into the Master of Educational Leadership.
