The Women in Central Banking Scholarship interviews form part of the graduate recruitment process. The top performing female candidate in the graduate interviews is awarded the scholarship.
We are passionate about having a diverse workforce. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has a “Women in Banking” scholarship available each year to students who are majoring in Economics, Finance or Banking and are entering their final year of an Honours or Masters degree.
How do students apply?
Applications for the 2021 scholarships are now open. Please complete our online application, as part of this you will need to provide the following information: Your CV A copy of your official academic transcript A recent essay or assessment (to demonstrate your written work) you have submitted as part of your degree Details of 2 – 3 referees who are able to give verbal references Application close 5pm Monday 22 February 2021.
We’re not your typical central bank; therefore we don’t take a typical approach to recruitment. Instead of the usual campus presentations, we visit universities in March to have an informal chat over coffee. Don’t be afraid to pick our brains about what it’s like to work at the Reserve Bank or ask any other questions you have.
How and when do students learn of the decision?
Following the application closing date, we interview the shortlisted applicants on campus. These interviews usually take place in late March. The best performing candidates are then invited to the Bank in Wellington for a second interview in April.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
In addition to the $10,000, an offer of employment is provided at the completion of your qualification, and you are provided with a mentor through your final year of study. It is important to note that a condition of receipt of the scholarship is that you must accept the position with the Reserve Bank and must remain in that position for a specified period of time. Should this condition not be met, then you will be required to repay the sum of the scholarship payments made to you.
We welcome applications from international students, provided you are legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
