Tenure: • Current scholars must present a study plan to the Scholarships Office clearly stating it is for renewal of the MBA scholarships before 1 November to have scholarship renewal considered by the panel for the following academic year.

The Vice-Chancellor has established a full-fee scholarship programme for staff to study the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PgDipBA) programmes.

This scholarship is intended to assist permanent full-time AUT staff members wishing to enter the Master of Business Administration or Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration programmes. These are high-cost programmes and not part of the nil-tuition fee programme for staff wishing to study.


Selection criteria:

  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents Applicants must be current full-time permanent staff, and have at least 12 months service. Priority will be given to those applicants who are in middle-management positions (Tier 2 and 3) Applicants must be eligible to enrol in the relevant programme

How do students apply?
Applications open in October of the year prior to intended study. Applicants must apply through the AUT online scholarships application portal and attach the documents below; A signed copy of the My Annual Plan (MAP) showing that management/leadership development is an agreed development priority. A statement summarising the relevance of the qualification to your current and ongoing employment at AUT, and the expected benefits to both yourself and to AUT. A statement of support from your direct line manager including approval of the proposed study plan A statement of support from your Dean/PVC or General Manager

Decision makers
• A selection panel including, but not limited to, the Group Director - People and Organisation and the Director of the MBA programme or their nominees will select the successful scholars. • The decision of the scholarship selection panel is final. • If the panel is of opinion that there is no applicant of sufficient merit, the scholarship will not be awarded.

Within the year of application.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Priority will be given to those applicants who are in middle-management positions (Tier 2 and 3)

Additional information
AMOUNT AND TYPE OF AWARD Scholarships will be either for study in the Master of Business Administration programme (180pts) or the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration programmme (120 pts). New scholarship awards will be determined annually. New awards will be dependent on budgetary constraints and the number of existing scholars successfully renewing their scholarship. The scholarship will cover: Tuition fees and Student Services fee for the equivalent of one paper per term; a maximum of 45pts per year. If the 30pt Applied Business Project, normally taken over 2-3 terms, is selected the applicant will only be eligible for additional papers in that year equal to a further 15pts.    The value of the scholarship will not exceed the cost of 180pts (MBA) or 120pts (PGDipBA) or 45pts in one academic year.
