A Trust fund was set up by Mildred Keir who died in 2003, in recognition of, and gratitude for, the benefits of many years of shared interests and concerns, valued friendships, the privileges of travel overseas to international conferences in congenial company, and in particular, recognition of a United States and New Zealand friendship for several decades. The Mildred Kier Award is now administered by New Horizons for Women Trust: Hine Kahukura and is selected from the Second-chance Education degree applicants each year.
To assist New Zealand women 27 years of age and older who are endeavouring to establish themselves in some area of the workforce by entering upon some diploma, degree or other accreditation course.
How do students apply?
Please apply for a Second- Chance Education award at the level of study you are undertaking, Foundation Certificate, Diploma or Degree level. Your application will be considered for this award if are over 27 years of age. Applications are open from 1 March each year for approximately six weeks. How and when do students learn of the decision?
Decisions are made in June and awards paid in July/August
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Award covers fees, travel costs, on-campus seminars,extramural study, technical institute training, book costs, babysitting or family charges and similar outgoings.
