Given the strategic importance of STEM fields for New Zealand’s future, ensuring females have equitable access to education and careers in these sectors is vital.  Electric Kiwi is proud to support AUT in bridging the gap between study and employment, connecting STEM students with female role models, engaging them in workshops and talks, and offering financial support that helps to prepare and develop female tertiary students for the careers of the twenty-first century.



Selection criteria:

  • Applicants for these scholarships must: 1. Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. 2. Be a female student registered in ARION. 3. Be a current AUT student enrolling full-time at the application closing date in the second or subsequent year of a bachelor’s degree programme delivered within the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies that is STEM/technology related. 4. Have demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement in their tertiary study up to the time of application.

How do students apply?
Applications will open in November. Applicants must complete the application online through the AUT Scholarships Database and will be required to upload: 1) A one-page (up to 600 words) personal statement outlining the applicant’s academic goals and career aspirations. Applicants must state why they believe they merit the scholarship. Include your experience as a woman in STEM, and if you have been involved in the Women in STEM community or how you've supported other women in STEM. 2)  A copy of the applicant’s transcript will be added to the application by the Scholarships Office once semester 2 grades have been finalized.

Decision makers
The recipient will be selected by a scholarship selection panel comprising representatives from Electric Kiwi and AUT Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.  The decision of the scholarship selection panel is final.  If the panel is of opinion that there is no applicant of sufficient merit, the scholarship will not be awarded.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the University Scholarships Office as soon as possible after selection has been completed.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The award of this scholarship is conditional on the student enrolling in the second or subsequent year of a bachelor’s degree programme delivered within the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies that is STEM/technology related.  The recipient will enrol in no less than 120pts during the year of tenure of the scholarship.
