Auckland University of Technology (AUT) provides postgraduate scholarships to encourage postgraduate study and research and to recognise student academic achievement.
The office of Māori Advancement offers AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships - Māori Advancement to Māori students for postgraduate study at AUT. The office works closely with AUT Māori staff, students and the wider community in advising and implementing Mātauranga Māori kaupapa throughout AUT. AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships are available to students undertaking study including a research component at Level 8 (Bachelor Honours Degree) or Level 9 (Master’s Degree) on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) who have demonstrated the potential to achieve highly. The scholarships are available to students intending to enrol in a programme of study with equivalence of a 30-point (or above) research component in a bachelor with honours degree, or a 45-point (or above) research component in a master’s degree. How do students apply?
Applications will open in October of the year preceding study for Semester 1 study or May for study in Semester 2. Applicants must complete the online AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarship Application available through the AUT Scholarships Database www.aut.ac.nz/scholarships. Applications will open in October of the year preceding study for Semester 1 enrolment starts (Master of Philosophy enrolments February or May) and May for Semester 2 enrolment starts (Master of Philosophy enrolments August or November). Applicants will be asked to upload the following documentation: - A one-page personal statement outlining the applicant’s academic goals, motivation and interest in research study and career aspirations stating why they believe they merit the scholarship. - If the applicant is applying for Master of Philosophy or Masters’ by 120pts thesis, their approved PGR1. - If the applicant is applying under the category Māori or Pacific, they must outline in the statement their cultural involvement. - If an applicant wishes to be considered as under financial hardship, they must address this in their personal statement and upload evidence of their financial position, i.e., IRD statement of income, and provide a reference from a person other than a family member who can support the applicant’s financial need. - Academic transcript(s) for any previous tertiary study that was completed at a New Zealand tertiary institution other than AUT. - A copy of the applicant’s AUT transcript will be added to the application by the Scholarships Office once grades have been finalised.

Applicants will be notified by the University Scholarships Office as soon as possible after selection panels have made their decisions.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The award of this scholarship is conditional on the student enrolling full-time in an approved programme. Approved study may be in Semester 1, Semester 2, and the Summer Semester (if available). The award will be paid as a contribution to fees only unless a stipend is also awarded.

The scholarship consists of tuition fees and compulsory student services fees (domestic equivalent rate) for: - 120pts at Level 8 or above in the approved programme of study completed within a twelve[1]month period; or - 180pts at Level 9 in the approved programme of study completed within an eighteen-month period, or - 240pts at Level 8 or above in the approved programme of study completed within a twenty-four-month period. Stipend scholarships may also be awarded to top applicants - tuition fees and compulsory student services fees plus an annual stipend of either $5,000 or $10,000.
