Bruce Cronin was the first manager of BayTrust serving from 1996 to 2014. This scholarship has been established to recognise his service to the people of the Bay of Plenty.
The scholarship is to support postgraduate study at masters or doctoral level at a New Zealand university in one of the following areas of research: - Mathematics - Science - Information Technology The dissertation or thesis should have a demonstrable benefit to the wider Bay of Plenty region.

Decision makers
A selection committee will be nominated and convened by Universities NZ.Membership of this committee will include a Trustee of BayTrust. Universities NZ will forward all eligible and complete applications to the selection committee.
How and when do students learn of the decision?
The committee will advise Universities NZ of its decisions; Universities NZ will advise each candidate of the result of his/her application.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Reports from both the scholar and his/her supervisor or principal lecturer must be provided. These should report on scholar's progress and achievements in his/her study/research.
Additional information
The on-line application form will request and applicants must provide: 1.evidence of their qualifying association with the Bay of Plenty. 2.an up to date curriculum vitae. 3.a description of the research (to a maximum of 1,000 words) which identifies the benefits to the Bay of Plenty region. The on-line application will prompt candidates to request a copy of their academic transcript from their New Zealand university. In the on-line application candidates are asked to nominate two people to provide references in support of their application: -one referee should be able to comment on the candidates academic ability and capacity. -the other referee should be able to comment on the candidate’s association with the Bay of Plenty.
