This scholarship was created from the Queen Elizabeth II Postgraduate Fellowship of New Zealand Act 1963. Up until around 1995 it was administered by the Māori Trust Office, but was handed over to the Māori Education Trust due to reforms made to the Māori Trustee Act.
Available to a Māori or non-Māori graduate with excellent academic ability, who plans to research at postgraduate level, in a field that will benefit Māori. Applicants must provide a reference from their supervisor/s regarding their research.
How do students apply?
Incomplete applications will be declined. You must advise the Māori Education Trust of any changes to your application. All changes must be advised in writing (email, fax and post are acceptable) All supporting documentation must be submitted. Selection panels are made up of external subject experts and representatives of bequest whanau and Trusts.
How and when do students learn of the decision?
All applicants (successful and unsuccessful) will be notified in writing within three months after the scholarship closing date.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
If you meet scholarship criteria, you can apply for as many scholarships as you wish, however you can only be awarded one.
