Examines the relationship between the criminal justice system and forensic mental health services and how both systems support individuals with mental impairments. Considers how the connection between the two systems engages a variety of critical doctrines in criminal law and procedure, all of which have clinical, legal, and social implications. Includes theory and practice issues related to unfitness to stand trial, the defence of insanity, the role of medical experts, the sentencing and disposition of mentally impaired offenders, and the management of mental impairment in correctional settings.
