This course examines Treaty of Waitangi as a foundational historical experience that continues to shape the lived realities of its partners. It critically analyses the Crown’s political dominance and its power to define and interpret the Treaty in ways that sustain hegemonic relations. The course also considers the transformative potential of the Treaty as a foundation for a more inclusive and equitable Aotearoa New Zealand identity.
