What does it mean to be global? How does the idea of citizenship – a contract between a citizen and their state – connect to a global(ised) identity? Most importantly, how might we educate our young people towards becoming Global Citizens? UNESCO states that Global Citizenship Education “aims to empower learners of all ages to assume active roles, both locally and globally, in building more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure societies”. This course critically explores the knowledge and dispositions which support Global Citizenship Education and investigates implications for teacher practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
