An ethic of care as a teaching professional is based on critical knowledge of self and others, and the diverse influences on world views and ways of knowing. Such critical knowledge understands the dynamics and effects of inclusion and exclusion, privilege and marginalisation and how they play out across cultures and groups in society. This course seeks to build that knowledge, exploring how the dynamics of advantage and disadvantage exist and operate across diverse social contexts within Aotearoa New Zealand society, especially in how they affect the ways young people and their whānau interact with educational contexts.
