Master of Service-Oriented Computing student
Choosing to study at AUT was easy, says Sheetal Datt who is currently completing a Master of Service-Oriented Computing.
“AUT is well-known for its continuous academic excellence, expert staff and outstanding facilities. AUT’s computing graduates are highly sought after, so it’s the right place if you’re looking to hone your skills or want to make a difference in your industry.”
She came to AUT to sharpen her skills, says Sheetal
“Before I came to AUT, I had put my IT career on hold for a few years but my love for the IT industry hadn’t stopped. I knew it was essential for me to continue my learning journey in order to remain competitive in the technology industry. I also liked that the Master of Service-Oriented Computing includes the opportunity to research an area of service-oriented computing, as I want to develop a navigation system for the visually impaired.”
A collaborative learning environment
She enjoys the way programmes are taught at AUT, says Sheetal who came to Auckland as an international student from India, supported by a New Zealand Excellence Award.
“What I enjoy best is the collaboration during the teaching and learning process. It encourages out of the box thinking, it’s flexible and it involves knowledge sharing.”
The huge amount of support available made it easy to adapt to the different style of teaching, she says.
“Having come from a country where the methodology of teaching and studying is completely different, it took me a while to adapt to the new method of researching and learning. However, AUT offers innumerable tools of support, including seminars, workshops and webinars. That made this journey very smooth for me.”
Friendly and supportive
Coming to a new country to study can be daunting, but Sheetal says people at AUT have gone out of their way to ease her transition to university life in Auckland.
“AUT has been a strong pillar of support in helping me adjust. For example, I was offered kindness and support by the Student Hub when I first arrived and was struggling to set up my student account and select my subjects.
“I also appreciated that services like the Health, Counselling and Wellbeing Centre were right on campus when I needed them. Such support matters a lot.”
