Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance student
Choosing where to study was easy, says Martin Dos Santos who came to AUT after successfully running a number of businesses in his native South Africa.
“AUT is one of the few universities in the world that provides a professional master’s degree in finance, and it was my preferred choice from the start. The growth AUT has shown over the past years in terms of quality education, popularity and rankings in the world of universities made the choice an easy and comfortable one. When I first arrived at AUT in October 2018, I immediately knew I made the correct choice.
“I’m planning to complete my Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance in June and then start a Master of Applied Finance, which I expect to complete by November 2019.”
Encouraged to thrive
He would highly recommend AUT’s applied finance programmes, Martin says.
“The programme is designed to challenge you, and the support and quality education at AUT makes study an unforgettable experience.”
The support of the academic staff is what Martin appreciates most.
“The quality and structure of the applied finance programme is of the highest of standard, the programme challenges you on all levels, but what I’ve enjoyed the most is the way the lecturers support, guide and motivate you to do better and to achieve more than your own expectations.”
Advice for other students
Expecting to complete his studies later this year, Martin has some great advice for other students.
“My advice for other students is to work extremely hard to achieve your desired grade. Remember, what you sow, you shall reap. My other piece of advice is to go prepared to every class and don’t miss a single class.”
Returning to study had some challenges, Martin admits.
“The biggest challenge for me was to get back into the disciplined habit of studying. All the lecturers made it clear that we should come prepared to every single class, and I can understand that now because this approach has helped me achieve marks above my expectations.”
