Marketing Coordinator, ezyVet
Bachelor of Communication Studies in Advertising Creativity
He has always been creative, says Jake Flashman who came to AUT to study a Bachelor of Communication Studies in Advertising Creativity.
“Being able to major in advertising creativity at AUT felt like the best outlet for my creativity. What I enjoyed the most about my degree was working on real briefs for real clients, and getting to work with a group of really good tutors.”
His studies also helped Jake discover where he wanted to take his future career.
“The first assignment for my art direction course and the discussions with my art direction lecturer really helped me work out what I wanted to do.”
A new adventure
Through the AUT Internz programme Jake headed to San Francisco after graduating, and got to experience life as an art director at leading ad agency FCB West.
“I worked on TV, radio, print and digital ads for a range of high-profile brands, including some we have in New Zealand as well as some brands that are only based out of America. I worked on ideation, art direction, copywriting and some design work.
“It was great having the chance to think about something different every day. The opportunity to make a name for myself at an international company also meant that I had a strong CV when I returned to New Zealand.”
Now back in Auckland, Jake is enjoying his new role as a marketing coordinator for ezyVet.
Advice for other students
Jake, who graduated from AUT at the end of 2019, has some great advice for other students.
“My advice for future AUT students is to take every opportunity that you can.
“I never thought that the United States would be somewhere that I would want to live or work, but San Francisco is an amazing city and I loved every second of my time while I was over there.”
