Marketing and Design Intern, Oppy, Vancouver, Canada
Bachelor of Design in Communication Design
She has always wanted to work overseas, says communication design alumna Aimee McMaster who is now working as a marketing and design intern at Oppy, one of North America's top fresh produce companies. She got this sought-after internship through the AUT Internz International Scholarship Programme.
“In this role, I’m involved in creating branding, character design, social media, advertising and in-house collateral. I love that I’m in a new country, able to venture into new places during the weekends while working in an industry I’ve always wanted to be a part of.
“The AUT Internz scholarship is a unique opportunity that gets students out into the world and into their chosen industry. These internships offer amazing working opportunities overseas and the financial help to get you there.”
Design has always been her passion, Aimee says.
“Design has always been something I was passionate about, and studying the Bachelor of Design in Communication Design felt like a nice follow-up from the subjects I loved at high school.”
She says that choosing where to study was easy.
“I decided to study design at AUT because it had a great reputation and was top in the country for this degree. I also found AUT the most appealing of all the universities I had visited before making my decision on where to study.”
Advice for other students
Make the most of the opportunities on offer, Aimee advises other students.
“Appreciate and partake in the opportunities AUT provides – they are unique and life changing.
“I was able to study abroad at Champlain College in the USA and have taken on an international internship in Canada. That was all because of AUT. Without AUT, this wouldn’t have been possible until much later on in my life, and at my own effort and resources.”
