Master of Professional Accounting student

The Master of Professional Accounting is an invaluable tool to shape your business career, says Advait Narayana Shetty who came to AUT as an international student from India.

“At AUT you learn from academic staff who are leaders in their field, and the classes focus on current professional practice and the experiences, learnings and challenges of your own work environment.

“This programme is highly regarded by employers and designed to meet the needs of the fast-paced and complex business environment, where leaders need an advanced understanding of all business divisions and managing cross-cultural teams.”

World-class education and support
Deciding where to study was easy, says Advait.

“I chose AUT for its world-class education standards. AUT is ranked first in New Zealand for its global research impact and is one of the top 1.2% of the universities worldwide.”

It’s a decision he hasn’t regretted.

“AUT offers a wide range of support services to help make life as stress-free as possible for students during their time at university. For example, students can get careers advice from the University's Employability Lab, which offers help with writing a CV and cover letter, interview techniques, and making contact with employers to get work experience.”

Advice for other students
Expecting to complete his master’s degree in 2020, Advait has some great advice for other international students.

“I think that Auckland is a world-class destination for international students, and offers students a positive learning experience. New Zealand is the second safest country, and Auckland is the third most liveable city in the world. AUT is a great place to study, enhance your knowledge base and prepare you to be job ready for the future.”

At first, he was concerned about adjusting to study in a different country and a new style of learning, Advait admits.

“In addition to your lectures, tutorials or seminars with a tutor, at AUT you’re also expected to work by yourself and be a self-motivated learner. I soon realised that I’m truly enjoying the experience of studying here.

“The whole business school at AUT is supportive and motivating me to bring out the best in me. I’m extremely grateful for their teachings and guidance, and they’re making this journey a beautiful one.”
