Guest information: graduation day

This page has information for guests who are attending a graduation day street procession or graduation ceremony. Current students and graduands can find more details on SDW.

Street procession on graduation day

AUT graduands can take part in a city street procession on some graduation days. Guests are welcome to watch from the pavement along the route.

Procession time and route

The graduands begin their procession at 10am from Albert Park.

The route follows Princes Street, going left down Bowen Avenue and Victoria Street East, and then left into Queen Street up to Aotea Square.

Bad weather

If the weather is obviously too bad for a procession and you are attending a graduation ceremony, you should go to the venue (Aotea Centre) 30 minutes before the ceremony starts.

Graduation ceremony

Graduation ceremonies are held at the Aotea Centre. If you are unable to get a ticket, you can also watch the ceremony on a screen in the atrium of the Aotea Centre.

Your tickets are not for allocated seats and you will sit separately from graduands. You should arrive at the Aotea Centre 30 minutes before the ceremony. The ceremony takes about two hours.

Car parking

Car parking can be difficult on graduation days, so allow extra time to find a park before your ceremony.

Some parking places near the venue include:

  • Civic car park (Greys Ave and Mayoral Drive)
  • Victoria Street car park
  • 56 Wakefield Street
  • Atrium on Elliott car park

Memorabilia and merchandise

A range of memorabilia is available at the venue on the day:

  • Official AUT Alumni Graduation Bears (profits go to the AUT Foundation’s Endowment Scholarship Fund)
  • Photos: professional photos are taken as each graduand crosses the stage — these are available to buy from Global Pix website 2-3 days after the ceremony.
  • DVD: professionally produced DVDs of the procession and ceremony are sold on the day, or online from Captures Video Productions website
  • Flowers: a florist is present with a range of bouquets

Your graduation certificate and transcript

The results of your studies are recorded as official academic documents – graduation certificates and transcripts.
