Professor of Marketing
Professor of Marketing Roger Marshall first joined AUT in 2007. With an already successful advertising major within the department, Roger went on to introduce sales and retail majors, both of which received strong private-sector support. Professor Marshall has stepped down from the Head of Department role to further foster the already rich research culture in the department and to develop even stronger industry ties.
Having initially enjoyed a successful business career, first in retail management and then in marketing stainless steel, Professor Marshall went on to study commerce at The University of Auckland, as a mature student. He completed a PhD in Cognitive Psychology (how people mentally process information to form attitudes) from the University of Western Australia in the 90’s. His areas of research include consumer decision behaviour, industrial buying centre dynamics and business relationships.
Professor Marshall is currently supervising many PhD students and recently won a Faculty Award for Graduate Supervision. He serves on the Faculty PhD Committee and the University Postgraduate Board, and has published over 100 articles, book chapters and edited books.
He spent nearly 13 years in senior academic roles at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where he supervised the first PhD awarded from the Nanyang Business School, in 1996.
Professor Marshall loves to play tennis with his teenage daughter and sail on the Waitemata with his grandsons.
