From chemistry to chemical engineering, commercial law to corporate governance, Professor Pare Keiha has been instrumental in ensuring Māori development in science, technology, research, business and education in New Zealand.
Professor Keiha is the Tumuaki/Dean of AUT’s Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Development – Te Ara Poutama. He is also Pro Vice-Chancellor for Māori Advancement, and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching. He previously held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor for Commercialisation at AUT.
Professor Keiha has extensive experience in the governance of public and private sector companies, which has shaped his worldview – from strategic and business planning, through to project management and marketing in industries covering legal services, health boards, utilities, energy, manufacturing, arts and more.
He advises a number of tribal and pan-tribal Māori enterprises and state sector entities in business development, management and strategy – areas he sees as crucial to Māori development.
He is not shy to admit that work is what he lives for. His work at AUT is not just a job, but a way of life. His passion lies in research, science and technology policy, in particular mobile and digitally based solutions for enhanced and refreshed teaching and learning. Professor Keiha's goal is for AUT to be a catalyst for change in the learning and teaching process through its digital advancements.
He is also committed to the further development of his faculty’s research capabilities, its commitment to te reo Māori, and the overarching advancement of Māori students and staff across the University.
In 2008, Professor Keiha was made a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order (QSO) in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to business, education and Māori.
His view of overarching success is simple: it is in the success of his students in whom he has much confidence to bring about positive change in the world.
