Marjolein Lips-Wiersma is Professor of Ethics and Sustainability Leadership at AUT, focused on researching how sustainability leads to more meaning and well-being. She also researches the roles and responsibilities of sustainability officers, what processes people use to evaluate their work as worthy, what (new) organisational forms are required to speed up the sustainability agenda and has an ongoing interest in engaging young people in sustainability issues in ways that empowers them to act.

As a world expert in the field of meaningful work, Marjo’s research on meaningful work is used in a variety of organisations in countries around the world and she is co-director of “Map of Meaning International” which aims to help organisations to create and maintain meaningful work.

She is also a member of the University Sustainability Taskforce and heads the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative in the AUT Business School.

Marjo has published in journals such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Leadership Quarterly, Group & Organization Management, Journal of Management Inquiry and the Journal of Business Ethics and has been a member of several editorial boards. She has taught organisational behaviour, ethics, sustainability, responsible leadership, career management and qualitative research methods at undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA levels. She has successfully supervised to completion a number of honours, master's and doctoral candidates in these areas.
