Eileen Piggot-Irvine

Professor of Leadership
School of Education

Although Professor Eileen Piggot-Irvine sits in the School of Education her interest in leadership spans across all sectors and all aspects of what means to be a leader.

She moved to AUT on return to New Zealand from Canada where she spent five years at Royal Roads University in British Columbia. She is an Adjunct Professor at both Royal Roads and Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia.

She is particularly interested in leadership that is highly collaborative and based on high-trust relationships, saying there has been a major shift in the field in terms of how leadership is perceived. She is currently interested in the authenticity of collaboration where engagement is sincere and open. She is excited that there is a shift towards an understanding that values in an organisation are important.

She is also known for her work in action research which she describes as deliberately engaging people in a collaborative way to try to understand what needs to be investigated before it is investigated, then investigating with the people who are impacted followed by a phase of using findings to generate improvement, then evaluating how the improvement has impacted the participants.
