Overview:

I joined AUT in 2003 when the Gambling and Addictions Research Centre (GARC), known at that time as the Gambling Research Centre, had just been established. I left AUT at the end of 2009 to become Chief Executive Officer of the national gambling helpline, and returned to GARC in May 2011 . My aim is to conduct research that is useful in informing policies and practice to reduce gambling-related harms. Although my main role is gambling-related research, I am also involved in teaching and student learning, including researcher mentoring, supervising post-graduate students and delivering guest lectures.

Research interests:

Gambling and harmful gambling including quantitative and qualitative research, large scale epidemiological studies, randomised controlled trials and evaluations. I also have an interest in researching other addictions.

Teaching summary:

I have given guest lectures at AUT and The University of Auckland on the topic of gambling-related harms and correlates.
