Overview:

Associate Professor Jason Landon is the Head of the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. His PhD was in behavioural psychology at the The University of Auckland. He then undertook Post-Doctoral work at the Liggins Institute of The University of Auckland studying the effects of early-life nutrition on learning and development. Jason has also worked in policy and research areas with the New Zealand Ministry of Health developing the Ministry's initial problem gambling research strategy, prior to joining Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

Jason has served the University in several capacities – as Psychology Programme Leader, on Faculty and Conjoint Boards of Studies, Faculty Committees, and as Head of Psychology. He is a member of AUT's Gambling and Addictions Research Centre and an associate editor of two international journals (International Gambling Studies, International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction).

Jason's research interests are broad, spanning a range of applied and experimental areas of psychology and public health. He collaborates with colleagues at AUT, The University of Auckland, and internationally at The University of Lincoln (United Kingdom), and has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles in a range of areas, along with various research reports, book chapters and many conference presentations.

Research interests:

Ass Prof Landon's research interests are broad, from experimental research through to qualitative investigations, and evaluations of public health interventions, with a heavy emphasis on gambling in recent years.

Jason has expertise using quantitative, qualitative and evaluation approaches to address experimental and applied issues across a range of areas in psychology. His current research is currently (but not exclusively) focused on the impacts of harmful gambling on vulnerable groups, electronic gaming machine gambling, links between harmful gambling and violence, the experiences of caregivers, noise sensitivity among clinical populations, and experimental studies of choice/decision making.

He welcomes research enquiries from postgraduate students in these and related areas (please check publication list).

Teaching summary:

Jason teaches across a range of papers in the undergraduate programme. His substantive teaching responsibilities are in Introduction to Psychology B (PSYC502), Brain and Behaviour (PSYC605), and Health Psychology (PSYC706).
