Upon completing his degree in mechanical engineering in 2003, Michael worked for six years both in New Zealand and overseas as a product development engineer. This time was spent developing both consumer and industrial products, gaining experience with real-world engineering practice.

After this time, Michael returned to the University of Auckland to study mathematics. This culminated in the completion of a doctorate in the field of topology.

Michael was then a lecturer at the University of Auckland for two years. Here he taught a wide range undergraduate mathematics courses, and continued research in topology.

In 2019 Michael joined the Mathematical Sciences Department at AUT. Here he will be applying his mathematical and engineering background to teaching and research in areas of engineering mathematics.
