Overview:

Associate Professor Bollard has an outstanding record of research success spanning geospatial science, , ecosystem management and spatial ecology. She has over 20 years’ experience working in government, NGO's and academia in both Australia and New Zealand. Her research focus has been the identification, selection and environmental monitoring of Protected Areas, using remote sensing technology, such as UAV, to map habitats and landscapes for conservation planning and integrating social data with environmental and biological information using decision support systems, multivariate statistics and GIS.

Research interests:

Her current interests interested include developing novel methods for advancing the science of high resolution remote sensing science. She has focused on 3D mapping of vegetation using multi and hyperspectral imaging for conservation and cultural objectives in complex forests and in extreme environments such as Antarctic, Namib and Australian arid lands. Her research is also breaking new ground in deploying drones in animal behaviour and object recognition science.. She is also engaged in research which explores the interaction between human perceptions and the ecological status of the natural environment.

Teaching summary:

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in geospatial sciences, remote sensing, conservation GIS and human geography.

Fields of research:

  • Landscape Ecology
  • Conservation and Biodiversity
  • Geospatial Information Systems
  • Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
  • Heritage and Cultural Conservation
