Overview:

Dr. Amirhosein Ghaffarianhoseini is the director of postgraduate & doctoral studies in the School of Future Environments at AUT. He is an architectural designer, an urban thinker and a senior lecturer in architecture with over 10 years of academic and professional experience in New Zealand, Canada and Malaysia. His research primarily concentrates on the future of buildings and urban areas from the lens of sustainable/healthy design and smartification. He has extensively published in most of the top-ranked journals in his field with the current total citations of 2500.

Before joining the School of Future Environments, Amir had served as the head of postgraduate studies at the School of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences and was also the coordinator of all masters research projects at the Department of Built Environment. He has been appointed as one of the AUT Leading Researchers and is currently the Co-Director of Architectural Engineering (AE) Lab while also being a key leader as the director of Responsive + Green Urban Built Environment (R+G UBE) Lab which is an interdisciplinary research group based in New Zealand (www.rgube.com). In recent years, he has led several nationally/internationally funded research projects and is currently supervising a large number of PhD and Master students in New Zealand.

As of early 2020, 3 PhD researchers from his team have successfully completed their doctoral studies at AUT besides a significant number of Masters graduates. He has also served as external examiner for PhD and Master researchers both in New Zealand and elsewhere.

He has coordinated various architectural design studios both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels focusing on integrated design process, building science and urban future. He is currently involved in teaching 3 core final-year courses: architectural design and development II, construction technology II and industrial project.

Amir has received several academic awards in recent years and many of his publications are highly read/cited and/or featured/awarded. He serves as the associate editors for Intelligent Buildings International (Taylor & Francis) and Smart and Sustainable Built Environment (Emerald).

In recent years, he has delivered keynote/invited speeches at different international conferences in many countries. He has also co-chaired various international conferences. His research articles are published in many of the world's top ranked journals including Building and Environment, Applied Energy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Cities, Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, Renewable Energy, Intelligent Buildings International, Desalination and Water Treatment, Sustainable Cities and Society, Architectural Science Review, Smart and Sustainable Built Environment, Science of the Total Environment, etc.

Amir is currently looking for highly passionate and competent researchers (with background in architectural design/science) who are interested in pursuing their doctoral research in New Zealand.
