Research Summary:

My research on Asia, urban, sustainability, and heritage focuses on tourism destinations. This might be as a single subject or combined. As examples: sustainability of tourism in New Zealand; sustainability of heritage tourism in Asian cities. The research on behaviour focuses on people. For example, the experiences of Japanese sojourners living in Auckland.

Current Research Projects:

  • Just dompleted:Kona (Hawai`i) coffee and coffee tourism – surviving in the niche. (This updates my PhD, which focused on Kona.)
  • Current: (1) The relationship between sustainable development and sustainable tourism: the case of Beijing’s hutong tourism. (2) Using tourism to create a regional identity that will produce sustainable development in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
  • Ongoing: Understanding the experiences of Japanese sojourners living in Auckland.
  • 2010:The sustainability of tourism in New Zealand. Implications of the postmodern transition in Asian cities for heritage tourism.
