AUT’s Great Start summer programme will help international students in New Zealand who are finishing high school or completing foundation programmes to step into first-year university study with confidence. You'll start Semester 1 with great academic skills and feeling familiar with campus life.
This 6-week Great Start programme takes place over the summer break. It's an intensive, part-time programme combining an introduction to university life on our City Campus with academic study skills, university experiences and great social activities. You'll become familiar with the campus, find out what it's like to study as an adult, and meet other students who are transitioning to university study over the summer.
The programme is delivered by AUT International House.
This is a 6-week course, running from Tuesday 5 January to Friday 12 February 2021.
The Great Start summer programme focuses on the skills needed for your first year of university study. At the end of the programme you'll receive a completion certificate.
During the programme you'll develop the academic skills needed for your first year, focusing on:
Each Friday, the programme includes both on and off-campus events. On-campus events will give you a taste of the many services available to AUT students. You’ll meet with AUTSA (our student union), take part in workshops facilitated by AUT’s Employability and Careers team, and improve your resilience with sessions run by AUT’s Health and Wellbeing staff.
You must be aged 18 years old or over to enrol. You may enter the programme with NCEA Level 2 (providing you have completed NCEA Level 3 and are awaiting final results), or IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.
Total cost: NZD $2580.00 ($430 per week)
International students may choose to remain in New Zealand during the 2020/21 summer break so they can re-enrol for the 2021 academic year. If an international student remains enrolled with an education provider over the summer, the international student pastoral care Code applies as usual. Responsibility for pastoral care of international students under The Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice is for the duration of enrolment.
