Karen Rutherford BA, RSA CTEFLA, RSA DTEFLA, MA (Hons) Language Teaching Head of School, Senior Lecturer
Karen has been involved in the field of language teaching since 1984 and has worked for International House in Finland, Egypt, England and Portugal. She is one of the founding staff members at AUT IH and has worked here since 1990. She coordinates UCLES, ESOL, FCE and CAE programmes at AUT IH and has an interest in teacher development. She is an IH visitor.
Anne Sweeney Grad. Dip. TESOL, M Applied Linguistics (Hons)
Senior Lecturer, Programme Leader
Anne joined AUT International House in 2002. She has extensive experience overseas and in New Zealand as a teacher, Director of Studies, curriculum developer and teacher trainer. She is a Cambridge/RSA CELTA teacher trainer and assessor.

Senior Lecturer, Programme Leader
Michael has been teaching English since 1989. He lived and taught in Japan for five years and joined AUT IH in 2000. He is interested in materials development.
Sunki Min BA Asian Studies - Japanese, Japanese Language Culture
Sunki processes new enrolments and helps current students with any queries. She has worked in Korea and Japan. Sunki is originally from Korea and is fluent in Korean, Japanese and English.
Mayumi Inoue-Matamua Dip. Home Economics
Mayumi is the key contact person for students. She helps in a wide range of administrative capacities. Mayumi is originally from Japan and speaks both Japanese and English.
Rafia Sultana BSc, PG Diploma in Business
Rafia is the key contact person for students and helps in a wide range of administrative capacities. She has worked in tertiary education sector in India and New Zealand. Rafia is originally from India and speaks both Hindi and English.
Accommodation and Pastoral Care Co-ordinator
Sarah is the Accommodation and Pastoral Care Co-ordinator for AUT International House. She has worked in the education sector for a number of years and has had the privilege of pioneering some of the most ambitious educational projects. Sarah is interested in further trying to define and promote the value of Chaplaincy in education.
Jane Williams CELTA, TESOL Certificate and TEFL Certificate in Business English
Academic Administration Officer
Jane is originally from England and had been working as an English language teacher at AUT for over two years prior to her administration role. She has extensive experience in the international and tertiary education sector and deals with a range of academic administration. She is happy to help with any student queries.
Airport Meeting Co-ordinators
Students will be met at the airport by a Premier Transfer representative and be taken to their host family.
Isobel Bailey MA (Hons), BA (Hons) Language and Linguistic Science, Post Graduate Diploma in TESOL
Isobel has previously taught in Taiwan and joined AUT International House in 2001.
Tim Blackman-Eley BA (Hons) Arabic Studies, CTEFLA, Dip TESOL, Med in ELT (Manchester)
Tim started teaching in Cairo in 1993 and came to AUT IH from the UK in 2002.
Michael Clark BA, MA (Hons) History, TTC, Dip. Tchg, RSA CELTA, MA (Hons) Language Teaching Senior Lecturer
Michael has taught in Portugal, Japan, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. He has been a lecturer at AUT IH since 2000.
Tom Gibson TTC, Cert Adult Ed, Dip. TESOL
Tom has extensive teaching experience in New Zealand schools and correctional institutions specialising in remedial education, ESL and special needs.
Robin Guenzel BA, Grad Dip TESOL, MA Applied Linguistics
Originally from the US, Robin has lived in New Zealand since 1998 and started working at AUT International House in 1999. She has taught in Japan as well as her home country and has also lived in Germany, Italy and the UK. She can speak German and has familiarity with Spanish and Italian.
Robbie Kerr currently Grad Dip TESOL, Cambridge CELTA, HND Civil Engineering, HND Phot (Fashion & Advertising) Lecturer
Robbie taught in his native England before running his own business. He travelled the world extensively before settling in New Zealand in 1997, joining AUT IH in 1999.
Katy Genc MA (Hons), BA, Dip. TESL
Katy has been an ESL teacher since 1990 in both New Zealand and Japan. She joined AUT IH in 2001. She speaks Japanese and is also the Harassment Prevention Programme Contact at International House.

Jennie has extensive experience in the TESOL field in language teaching, management, curriculum design and materials development both overseas and in New Zealand. She speaks Hindustani.

Tony has lived and taught in Portugal and England. He has been at AUT IH since 2002.

Paul has taught and lived in Japan, Australia and Britain. He has an interest in critical language issues and vocabulary development. Paul is a co-ordinator for the Student Activity Programme at International House.
Mark Lewis MA Language Teaching, BA, Cert. TESOL. Cert. Mandarin Studies
Mark has a background in business as well as teaching and has lived and worked in Asia for many years.
He speaks Chinese (Mandarin) and a little Japanese. He joined AUT IH in 2007.
Koru Vautier TESOL, BA. Eng. Lit.
Koru is from Auckland but grew up in Hong Kong. She has lived and taught English in Australia, Japan and Korea and joined AUT IH in 2007.

Rachael joined AUT International House in 2002.
She is originally from the UK, and has worked there as well as in the Czech Republic and Spain. Rachael has an interest in materials development, CALL and teacher training.
Kate Absolum BA, CELTA, Post Grad Cert Journalism, MA Applied Linguistics, currently DELTA
Kate has been teaching ESL since 2002. She has taught in Australia, Korea, Hong Kong and New Zealand. She has been teaching at AUT International House since 2008. Kate has a particular interest in task-based learning and applying communicative methodology in different cultural contexts.
Maria Ross BA (English, French), CELTA, DELTA, MA (Hons)
A professional linguist with many years experience of teaching English, Maria joined AUT International House in 2008.
She has an interest in academic literacy, pronunciation and material development.

Mark has lived and taught in Sweden, China, New Zealand and England, where he is originally from.
He joined AUT IH in 2008 and has a particular interest in task-based learning. He speaks Swedish.
