Saving your files

All AUT students have two spaces for file storage:

OneDrive

This is cloud-based storage that is part of the free Office 365 Suite available to all students. You get 1 TB of space.

OneDrive lets you store, sync, share and collaborate on files simply, from any device, and any location. It’s highly recommended that you save your work to OneDrive, especially if your documents are under 1GB in size.

You should be aware that uploading and/or downloading files to OneDrive will impact on your monthly AUT data allowance (when you use AUT’s wifi). For more guidelines for using OneDrive, go to ithelp.aut.ac.nz/OneDrive.

*Conditions apply to the use of OneDrive.

H: Drive

When your Network Login is created, you are automatically allocated space on the AUT network. This space is known as your home directory or your ‘H:’ drive. Note: when you save to My Documents from an AUT computer you are saving to H:\data\. The default capacity for your home directory is 300 megabytes. If you’re working on large files yourself or collaborating on them with others, you are best to save these to your H Drive (as saving them on OneDrive will impact on your data allowance).

If you have documents stored in your H:\ drive, you can use MyFiles to download files from your H:\ drive to your personal computer by following these steps:
  • Open up a web browser, for example Internet Explorer.
  • Go to Student Digital Workspace (SDW)
  • Go to System & Tools and click on MyFiles
  • Login with your Network Login and Password.
  • Select the file you want to download from the folders on the left of the screen.
  • Click on the File menu, select Download from the options.
  • Find the location in which you’d like to store the file, and click on Save.

You can also upload files from your H:\ drive to your personal computer by following these steps:
  • Open up a web browser, for example Internet Explorer.
  • Go to Student Digital Workspace (SDW)
  • Go to System & Tools and click on MyFiles
  • Login with your Network Login and Password.
  • Select the folder that you want to upload the file to from the list on the left of the screen.
  • Click on the File menu, select Upload from the options.
  • Browse to the file you wish to upload to your folder.
  • Ensure that the Overwrite Existing Files option is un-ticked and rename the file that needs to be uploaded so it won’t clash with an existing file.
  • Click the Upload button.
