What she loves most about her role is being able to interact with and provide support to AUT employees, says Tori Frecklington who works as an HR co-ordinator in the People and Culture team.
“I know that everyone at AUT is working really hard to ensure that our students are provided with the best education and facilities, so being able to support employees to do their best work is incredibly satisfying. The appreciation AUT employees have when I’m able to assist them is always a highlight in my day.”
As one of a team of HR co-ordinators, Tori is the first point of contact for staff who get in touch with AUT’s People and Culture department.
“I’m here to assist the wider People and Culture team and ensure that AUT staff are supported with their day-to-day HR needs. My main responsibility is managing the HR-related employee queries and requests that come in on the phones and via Service Now, AUT’s online help portal. I also help manage a lot of the hourly paid contract processing.”
Opportunities to grow
Tori joined AUT’s People and Culture team in February 2020, but her journey at AUT started several years earlier when she enrolled in a Bachelor of Business.
“When I was studying business at AUT, I found myself really intrigued by the human resource management courses that were on offer. I enjoyed the broad nature of HR and the various elements that all contribute to the employee lifecycle. We all spend such a large portion of our lives at work, and I feel that HR has the ability to really enhance the work environment for employees.”
She has appreciated the support and encouragement to help her achieve her career goals.
“Since the day I started at AUT I’ve been encouraged to share my goals and any interests I may want to pursue. I feel very encouraged to develop my skills and put my hand up for any opportunities that may arise. There is also a greater flexibility in terms of working from home and changes in hours in comparison to other workplaces.”
A great place to work
The people are what sets AUT apart from other organisations, Tori says.
“I love the people at AUT. Throughout both my studies and my career now, I’ve had the privilege of being surrounded by such welcoming and supportive people. AUT is a place that fosters growth and wants to encourage the best in its people. As AUT is such a large organisation, it also presents many challenges and opportunities that enable you to expand and grow every day.”
AUT is a great place to work, she adds.
“The culture at AUT is one that makes you feel welcome and happy to turn up to work each day. People here truly do embody AUT’s values of tika, pono and aroha, which makes for an amazing workplace environment. AUT also provides many great benefits and opportunities, while also promoting a positive work-life balance.”
