Māori Media

Māori participation in media has grown exponentially since the inception of the Māori Television Service in 2004. However Māori have been actively engaged in film and television production throughout its history in Aotearoa new Zealand. In 2008, AUT hosted the Ngā Aho Whakaari: Māori in Film, Video and Television Association annual hui and the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Inaugural Conference. The Bachelor of Māori Development offer students a Māori Media major. These activities allow Te Ara Poutama to make a significant contribution to the further development and progression of the Māori media sector.
