Beginner and intermediate te reo Māori courses

Our classes are taught by Te Ara Poutama, the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Development. These courses are offered free to domestic and international students. 

Beginner courses

Each paper is worth 15 points. 

MAOR500 Introduction to Conversational Māori
MAOR501 Te Kākano M
āori Language 1
MAOR502 Te Kākano Māori Language 2

Prerequisites

  • There are no prerequisites for MAOR500 or MAOR501
  • To enrol in MAOR502 you must complete MAOR501 (or complete a Recognition of Prior Learning test)

Intermediate courses

Each paper is worth 15 points.

MAOR601 Te Pihinga Māori Language 1
MAOR602 Te Pihinga Māori Language 2 

Prerequisites

  • To enrol in MAOR601 you must complete MAOR502
  • To enrol in MAOR602 you must complete MAOR601
If you have not completed the prerequisites at AUT, we may ask you to complete a Recognition of Prior Learning test (RPL). 

Free tuition: nil fees

We offer beginner and intermediate Māori language courses free to students.

The nil-tuition fee is available to domestic and international students and applies to beginner and intermediate courses only. International students may incur fees related to visa requirements.

If you fail a paper but want to re-enrol you must pay the full tuition fee.

  • Semester 1 2018: 26 February to 22 June
  • Semester 2 2018: 16 July to 9 November
