NARI FAIERS
A world view transformed
Nari Faiers graduated with a Bachelor of Māori Development in 2008 and is now pursuing her Master of Arts in Māori Development. Her working thesis, entitled
The changing role of Te Arawa women in ritual, is the product of a refreshed sense of cultural identity.
“My outlook of business, management and enterprise transformed – mainly due
to the teaching and learning of te ao Māori – a Māori world view – within each class taught on the programme. I never thought to apply a holistic approach including both a Māori and Pakeha perspective. It unleashed my ‘thinking outside of the square’. People have a perception that the BMD is all about learning Māori language and culture. What they don’t realise is that it’s about applying a Māori worldview to business, media and life in general.”
