Painting the picture
Studio technician and producer Lewin Tipene Husband works for UMA Broadcasting and Radio Waatea, after completing a Bachelor of Māori Development majoring in Māori media, at AUT University.
“I wanted to work in an industry with innovative people who bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm, to paint the Māori picture and tell the Māori story,” he says.
The Ngati Maru descendant describes the programme as an ideal foundation. “It’s a solid start for anyone keen to have an input into the way Māori are portrayed in the media. I liked having access to the top of the line technology Te Ara Poutama had to offer. I really enjoyed the whakawhanaungatanga and the way tikanga maori was integrated into my studies."
