Diploma in Sport and Recreation: rugby

We offer a diploma tailored for students with a special interest in rugby and who want to experience New Zealand Rugby culture in Auckland.
If you are a player or amateur coach - the AUT Diploma in Sport and Recreation - Rugby is specifically designed to prepare you to follow your dream and create a professional career in sports management, coaching or playing. 

Course content

The Rugby practicum will be delivered by North Harbour Rugby and includes special guest lectures from Craig Dowd, Jeff Wilson, Wayne ‘Buck' Shelford and Frano Botica. Areas covered include:

  • coach education
  • stadium management
  • coaching clinics
  • sports management & administration
  • business networking
  • player interaction

Students will also study the fields of exercise science, coaching, quality service and supervision as part of their diploma. Paper information can be found on the Diploma in Sport and Recreation page

After the successful completion of one year of study students will gain:

  • Practical work experience at a leading Rugby Association
  • Playing opportunities may be possible at North Harbour Rugby Clubs 
  • Knowledge of latest sports management and coaching theory
  • Eligibility to enroll in the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Degree

Starting date: 27 February and runs through to end of November.

Fees: AUT International Tuition Fee - NZ$20,200
 Rugby Fee - $6,700
