Cricket is a global sport enjoying a huge boom since the introduction of Twenty20. With the rapid changes currently taking place in cricket it now offers a wide array of opportunities and career options.

If you are a player, supporter or amateur coach – the AUT Diploma in Sport and Recreation – Cricket is specifically designed to prepare you to follow your dream and create a professional career in sports management, coaching or playing.

Please note: at the completion of this diploma students will be awarded a parchment stating the qualification of diploma in sport and recreation.


What this qualifications covers

Students will acquire key skills in exercise science, coaching, quality service
and supervision as well as practical industry skills. In addition you will have an in-depth and specialised education in cricket delivered through our course partner, the Auckland Cricket Association. After the prescribed one year study students will have gained:

  • New Zealand Coaching level one and level two coaching qualifications
  • Practical work experience at a leading First Class Cricket Association
  • Playing opportunities in Auckland Club Cricket (where appropriate)
  • Knowledge of latest sports management and coaching theory
  • Eligibility to enrol in the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Degree

Facilities and teaching

The practical components of the Diploma will be delivered in the Auckland Cricket High Performance Centre which is located at Eden Park. The Cricket Practicum will be delivered by the Auckland Cricket coaching staff which includes:

  • Scott Styris – current member of IPL Champion Deccan Chargers, Black Cap and Auckland Ace
  • Paul Strang – former Zimbabwe International player and current Auckland Aces coach
  • Matt Horne – former Black Cap 

In addition there will be a special guest lecture from each of the following:

  • You must have proof of basic cricketing skills either from playing at school or on a college team.

Fees

AUT International Tuition Fee: NZ$19,000**
Supplementary Cricket Fee: NZ$6,500
