MelodyOliverMelody Oliver
Bachelor of Sport & Recreation
PhD Health Science

Melody Oliver started with a diploma and now she is a doctor.

Melody’s interest in physical activity and nutrition first motivated her to complete a Diploma in Fitness Training at AUT, then a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation and followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science.

And now, she has a doctorate from AUT having completed ground-breaking research.

Melody completed her doctorate on preschoolers’ level of physical activity – an area that previously had never been researched in depth in New Zealand.
Early childhood is a critical time to establish beneficial lifestyle behaviour, she says.

“Parents may be more amenable to changing their child’s routine. Plus early childhood centres are environments that can be regulated to be physical activity friendly.”

But her physical activity research doesn’t end here. Melody is staying on at AUT as part of a fellowship and involved with several significant studies, leading the components that focus on preschool children.
